President Jonathan Approves Second term for FCE Okene Provost

President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the re-appointment of Associate Professor Iyela Ajayi for a second tenure of the office as Provost of the Federal College of Education, Okene.

According to the statement released by the College Deputy Registrar of the Public Relation Unit, Mr Peter Ovansa, the reappointment is as a result of the landmark achievements and exemplary leadership of the Provost.

The first tenure of the Associate Professor Iyela Ajayi as Provost of the College from 2009 to 2013 witnessed rapid transformation of the College in many respects.

There was uninterrupted peace with the attendant stable academic calendar free from strikes and protests, as well as improved job satisfaction among staff with lots of initiatives and packages on both staff and students welfare.

During the period of his first tenure, there were over thirty capital projects executed which gave facelifts to the College with the establishment of the centre for Ebira studies and a Skill Acquisition Centre to render relevance to the outside communities including skills acquisition centre is an entrepreneur outfit that will contribute to the alleviation of youth unemployment and restiveness.
The leadership of Associate Professor Iyela Ajayi also bought to reality the 18 years of College dream to run programmes which ultimately commended in the 2012/2013 academic session by affiliation with the University of Ibadan.

It would be recalled that various stakeholders shuch as the Enlarged Management Committee and later the Governing Council of the College, the College Management Team, the Trade Unions (COEASU, SSUCOEN and NASU), the Student Union Government, Alumni Association, the immediate communities and their traditional institutions, among others had in their respective unanimity endorsed the reappointment of the Provost for a second tenure, with overwhelming affirmation that the Provost’s reappointment was well deserved.

However, the Provost in his modest response dedicated the appointment to God Almighty who made it possible for him to work and succeed with all the stakeholders.

He appreciated the staffs and students for their cooperation and understanding, without which he said the present development achieved by the College would not have been.

According to the Provost, he will take his reappointment with fresh vigour and commitments to enable him take the College to the next level, insisting that his best was yet to come.
