Kogi state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has called on Nigerians not to be disappointed over the postponement of the Presidential and National Assembly elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), adding that the development shouldn’t demoralize but strengthen Nigerians’ collective resolve to grow the nation’s democracy.
While calling on Nigerians not to lose confidence in the electoral process due to the cancellation of the scheduled exercise, Alhaji Bello urged INEC to put all machineries in place to avoid a repeat of such unfortunate occurrence.
According to a press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bello, Muhammad Onogwu, the Governor appealed to the electorate, especially Kogi state indigenes who had travelled home for the elections not to despair, but urged them to remain patriotic, steadfast and have faith in the ability of the electoral body to conduct a free, fair and credible polls.
Governor Bello who called for calm across the state, warned against any form of public demonstration, or unlawful gathering that may lead to break down of law and order.
“I personally understand the frustration and disappointment expressed by Nigerians over the last minute postponement of scheduled elections by INEC. Your reactions are in order, but I urge everyone to be calm and refrain making remarks capable of heating up the polity,” he said.
