Police Move Against Kidnapping, Robbery in Kogi

Kogi State Police Command has stepped up its surveillance to tackle the rising cases of kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes in the state.

Daily Trust reports that cases of kidnapping, armed robbery and cultism have been on the increase in the state in recent times.

While many victims have spent huge sums of money in payment of ransoms to such kidnappers before securing their release, others who were not lucky enough got killed in the kidnappers’ dens.

State Police Commissioner, Yakubu Usman, while parading 27 suspected kidnappers at the command’s headquarters in Lokoja, recently, said the police have recorded tremendous progress in the fight against crime in the state.
He said some suspected kidnappers, who had been terrorising residents of Lokoja, Okene, Ajaokuta, Obajana, Kabba, Adogo, Itobe, Anyigba and Idah areas of the state were recently killed.
He said some others involved in various crimes were arrested.
Amongst the exhibits recovered from the paraded suspects were 160 AK47 rifles, live ammunition, locally made barrel guns, cutlasses, live cartridges, charms, army bag, Camry car, Toyota picnic car, and Golf car, amongst others.
While assuring that the command would ensure that all criminal elements were flushed out of the state, the police commissioner urged people of the state to assist them with useful information to enable them fight crime.
The commissioner said the suspects would soon be charged to court.
