Police Foil Robbery In Lokoja: Kill 2, Arrest 2

Nemesis caught up with a six-man robbery gang, as men of the state police command foiled what would have been a major operation in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital yesterday.

The robbery gang came on three power bikes, targeting customers carrying out transactions in one of the new generation banks operating in Lokoja metropolis.
However, during a gun duel  between them and the police, two were  killed, two were  arrested while two of them escaped.One of the arrested suspects,  Kenneth Unorum, told newsmen that they came from Imo State, adding that their leader, whom he called Chimezie,  could not endure the gunshot as he died before getting to the Police headquarters. The name of the second dead person was not made available

The robbery gang were said to have stormed the area, at Aliyu Attah road, around 11.30 am yesterday morning, waiting for customers who were in the bank for transactions.The robbery gang had hadly dispossessed two customers of their money outside the bank when police stormed the area, paving way for a delicate and tactical battle, considering the concentration of high number of people around the area.

Briefing newsmen on the matter, the state commissioner of police, Mr. Muhammadu Musa Katsina, disclosed two members of the gang were gunned down while two others were arrested, adding however, that the remaining two are on the run.

He disclosed that one pistol and some rounds of catridges were recovered from them, adding that his men are on the trail of the others, whom he vowed have no choice but to surrender, as his ‘ambush squad’ would surely capture them.

He added that he has given ‘operational order’ to his boys not to return to the command without apprehending the remaining criminals, disclosing that their network is so tight that it can pick anything, no matter how small.

The commissioner further assured members of the public that the command was poised to make the state unsafe for
criminals, stressing that they are making progress in the fight against crime and criminality in the state.
