The Kogi Police Command on Thursday debunked reports making the round that armed gunmen invaded the construction site of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) at Obajana and destroyed a 150MVA 330/132/33kV power transformer.
SP Williams Ovye-Aya, the command’s image maker made the refutal while speaking with newsmen in Lokoja.
Ovye-Aya described the alleged attack on TCM facilities as “false and very unfortunate” in a state enjoying peace.
“The report is false, misleading and should be disregarded by all and sundry.
“We believe the report is the hand work of mischief makers, who are determined to create fear and tension among the good people of Kogi.
“This is because the Divisional Police Officer, (DPO) in charge of Obajana division said it was transformer oil that started leaking due to heat.
“Therefore, there’s nothing like vandalization or attack on the TCN facility by armed gunmen.
“The public should disregard the information. It is fake news meant to cause tension and panic among the People”, he said
TCN General Manager, Pubic Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, had said its 330/132/33kV transmission substation was attacked Tuesday night at Obajana in Kogi State.
Mbah alleged that the security personnel at the site had claimed that the assailants opened fire indiscriminately during the attack causing them to flee.
According to her, the attackers had struck a 150MVA 330/132/33kV power transformer already positioned on its plinth, resulting in a burst radiator.
