A nurse, Rebecca Amina Sanni, has been arrested by the Kogi State Command of the Nigerian Police Force over the disappearance of a new-born bay in a hospital she works.
The mother of the baby who got missing shortly after delivery at Peniel Maternity/Clinic Anyigba, in Dekina Local government, Kogi State, Mrs Laruba Drisu, has accused Sanni, of masterminding the sudden disappearance of her baby from the hospital Sunday, May 28, 2018.
Speaking in an exclusive interview yesterday, in her village Okafaga II, Ofu Local Government, about 15km away from where the incident occurred, the distraught mother of four said she won’t give up till the mystery was unravelled and her missing daughter found.
Drisu stated that she suspected the nurse on the disappearance of her baby who was stolen from the maternity.
Confirming the incident, the Kogi State Police Public Relation Officer, (PPRO) William Aya, said the case had been transferred to the Force Headquarters as the prime suspect, Sanni and the owner of the clinic were currently in police custody.
The mother of the missing baby said what transpired between the nurse and one other person dressed in hijab should be unravelled.
She said, “On Sunday, I was caught up with labour at about 7am. My husband and I went to the hospital and it was confirmed that it was time for me to give birth. When my husband went home to bring some of our belongings needed for the delivery, I had already been delivered of a baby.”
Mrs Drisu narrated further, “When I was delivered of the baby it was Mummy’s (proprietress of the maternity) cloth that was used to wrap my baby. When my husband came back with his mother to the hospital, he was very happy to see our new born baby.
“After delivery, I noticed that I was bleeding so Mummy checked me and gave me injection. Later, she put me on drips before the bleeding subsided. When the bleeding subsided, Mummy told the nurse that it was because the baby was big.”
She maintained that the incident occurred when she was being treated as her mother-in-law was sent on an errand and her husband was away on a mission.
“It was in the process of checking me and cleaning the blood-stained bed coupled with the absence of my husband and mother-in-law that the baby got missing,”
Mrs Drisu said noting that the nurse went inside with a strange woman. “Since I wasn’t having much strength after losing so much blood, I thought it was a woman who wanted to speak with the nurse when she was inside. Few minutes later, I heard my daughter was nowhere to be found”.
Mr Drisu while demanding for justice also claimed the suspected nurse knew the whereabouts of his missing child. Peniel Maternity and Clinic popularly known as (Mummy’s hospital) Anyigba in Dekina LGA – Kogi State was established in 2015.
