Poem: Lock-down and Lock-up

491
Spread the love

A season of anomie
An era of apprehension
Coronavirus harbinger of evil
Coronavirus harbinger of death
Pervades the whole world
The days seem at an end
The high and the mighty humbled

Where is that strength?
Where is that might?
All flies away.

The location:
The bubbling market
The crowded street
Now abandoned
The desolation in homes
Now replaced with crowd.
The deviants remain in the street
The desperate soul
And masquerades out there
To chase him down
Not in quarantine,yet quarantined

Another colour, another name
Stay at home
Confined and incarcerated, yet not in custody
Order of stay at home
A some of vacuous enclosure
Occasioned by power extraordinare
A situation never contemplated
A condition never to treasure

The world stagnates
Famine looms
Leaders, cheaters, readers now one
Students, workers, mothers and fathers
Now in the threshold of penury
Solution now a calamity
Nevertheless, stay at home
So it is decreed
A really bitter pill to swallow
Coronavirus An unmitigated disaster

The word of consolation,
In a hymn:”He who would valiant be’Gainst all disasters
Let him in constancy
Follow the Master
There is no discouragement
That can make him relent
His first avowed intent
To be a pilgrim

Coronavirus shall be defeated!
And the whole world shall be free!
