As the people of Yagba West prepare for the Dec. 21 local government election in Kogi state, the only candidate that rings bell in my ears is Pius Gbemisola Kolawole, candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Apparently, Kolawole becomes very popular among his contemporaries due to his sterling character. This inarguably informs the reason young and old fell in love with the ‘proven God sent leader’.
As a result of this love, the popular slogan on the streets ahead of the poll is “Pius Lolese”, meaning only Pius can do it.
It is therefore an incontrovertible fact that Pius is outstanding and lots of miles ahead of his peers. He possesses a unique leadership foresight and he could be described as an embodiment of humility, talent and wisdom. As a grassroot politician, Kolawole is a household name that has exhibited his worth in the political arena of the area.
Previously, Kolawole had serve in various capacities in the state such as a caretaker chairman, Yagba West Local Government Area (2007-2008), Senior Special Assistant on Political Affairs to Kogi State Governor (2015-2019) and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor in charge of Yagba West Local Government (2020-2020).
The APC candidate was rated the best ever to oversee Yagba West local government council during his sway as a caretaker Chairman. His passion for youths was second to none.
Kolawole birthed the idea of youths empowerment programme that saw over 200 youths in the area employed into the local government administration. Interestingly, it was the first time that a number of youth would enjoy a massive recruitment, which helped in a long way to reduce the rate of unemployment in the area. No past administrators could boast of such achievement. This recruitment cut across the towns and villages in the local government council.
Many, as a result of the laudable effort, became the bread winners in their respective families.
His short time tenure in office led to total renaissance in education sector as students bags award on consistent basis. He took his time to organise an scholarship award for best students in primary and secondary schools. Many students were sponsored via Kolawoles’ scholarship programme up to Tertiary institution. Some have now become an employer of labour while most have excel in their career chosen path.
In the area of security, he left nothing for granted as ensured vigilante group were set up and well organised to protect lives and properties of the residents. As if that was not enough, the APC candidate also championed collaboration between the Nigeria Police and the Vigilante group to keep the local government most secured and safe for a living.
Before the lapse of his tenure, many farmers had benefited from the government through provision of agricultural incentives and materials to help their farming activities and improve food security in the area. Farm inputs and implement were also provided for farmers to ensure high productivity.
He did not only operated an open door policy, Kolawole was always available and alert to the yearnings and aspirations of his people at the home and in the diaspora. He was a leader one could walk up to and discuss challenges with and he would surely provide solutions. He is a good listener and always ready to act. A very humble, unselfish and a kind man who deserves the cap.
With every sense of optimism, if voted, Pius Kolawole would transform Yagba West to a new paradise. There is no need to be a doubting Thomas as his one good turn deserves another. The APC chairmanship candidate is a progressive to the core, a born leader. He is tested and trusted.
By and large, Pius Kolawole is all that’s missing to take Yagba West to next level and a vote for him in the forthcoming poll amounts to a vote for transformation and better wellbeing.
