Kogi State Association of Phone Technicians and Accessories Dealers has appealed to Governor Idris Wada to stop the Ministry of Culture and Tourism from evicting its members from their present location.

Chairman of the association, Comrade Tahir Alilu Salifu,  made the appeal yesterday in Lokoja, while addressing journalists on the plan to evict them from the square.

He said the phone business has taken youths off the streets and rehabilitated criminals and political thugs. “We were relocated to the square after our displacement from the post office area in Lokoja. It was after series of lobbying for a permanent place that we got this area, but the ministry has served us with a letter of notice ordering us to relocate without an alternative arrangement,” he said.

He called on the state government to come to their aid, as according to him they are yet to recover from losses they suffered due to the last relocation.

The chairman said the members pay N1,500 each on monthly basis for the spaces occupied, adding that the group has about 400 members contributing to the state economy.
