The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Professor Mohammed Suleiman Audu, alongside the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, have been conferred with the Prestigious Fellowship of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP).
The honour was bestowed on the university leaders in recognition of their outstanding contributions to peace scholarship, exemplary leadership, and the promotion of peace and security across Nigeria. The formal investiture took place on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, during the opening of the SPSP 20th Annual International Conference and General Assembly hosted at Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The conferment was preceded by nominations from the Society’s National Working Committee and subsequent ratification by its Board of Trustees. SPSP serves as a professional umbrella organisation for peace scholars and practitioners dedicated to fostering collaboration towards sustainable peace and development across the African continent. The body actively promotes non-violent approaches to conflict resolution through rigorous research, strategic advocacy, practical interventions, and international scholarly engagements.

In their joint response following the ceremony—which featured the presentation of Fellowship certificates and commemorative plaques—Professor Audu and Professor Usman expressed deep appreciation to the SPSP leadership for the honour. They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives that foster peaceful coexistence and conflict resolution, emphasizing the vital role academic institutions and professional bodies play in advancing peace research and practice.
The university administration leaders further called for sustained collaboration among scholars, practitioners, government institutions, and key stakeholders to effectively tackle Nigeria’s contemporary peace and security challenges.
Members of the PAAU community have since showered accolades on both leaders, describing the award as a well-deserved acknowledgement of their commitment to leadership excellence and harmonious social development.
