Oyenka Nwelue is gradually becoming a household name in the Nigerian literary world. The author and film maker, whose documentary film on Flora Nwapa, the first African female novelist to be published, and titled: “The House of Nwapa”, was nominated by the African Movies Academy Award (AMAA), on the best documentary categories.
Onyeka has yet returned to the limelight with another spellbound film. This time, the film is all about Oguta, the oil rich region of Imo State. He titled it: “Agwaetiti Obiuto” meaning, “The Island of Happiness”. The film is set in Igbo language and it hosts vast number of characters.
Professor Wole Soyinka, commends Onyeka on the successful shooting of the film and express how he can’t wait to see it. Onyeka referred to Soyinka as a man after his heart, as the two has been enjoying a father to son relationship. The Nobel Prize winner, also endorsed his recent published book: “The Beginning of Everything Colorful”
The Baron of Africa (as fondly praised by his inner circle), has done well for himself at a very tender age. His widely travelled and has spoken in different conferences around the world. Onyekawill be a guest speaker at the 2nd Annual Black & White Gala Ball, in Galgary, Canada. Another of his short films: The Great Masturbator” will be premiered at this event. He is known for always choosing spellbound tittles for his work.
Onyeka has successfully hypnotized, thousands of youths across Africa and the rest part of the world (especially the creative ones) and most are feeling as if he has their destinies in his hands. He always make sure he exonerates himself of this claim. So, he wrote in a short poem:
“I feel like I can walk on water
Touch the sky and go further
Spread my wings because I want to rise above these clouds
I feel it feels good to be free
That is why many people are jealous of me”
This is a personality to be watched out for. He is making Nigerians proud and well known for his fleet of achievements. An author of five books, award nominee of AMAA, film maker, teacher, and a well known literary rebel. I personally have meant him on two different occasions and his such a pure soul. Congratulations on your achievements Onyeka Nwelue.
