Owara Crisis: Lokoja Caretaker Chairman Visits Idoji, Promises to Bring Perpetrators to Book

Crisis erupted late Sunday night between Asawa and Agatu tribes in Idoji Owara, Lokoja local government area after a teenager was stabbed to death.

Less than twelve hours after the unfortunate incidence which claimed the life of the eighteen year old male simply known Tanko, the Lokoja Local Government Caretaker Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu swung into action by visiting the scene along with the Divisional Police Officer, B Division, Felele.

The Mai anguwa who spoke on behalf of the Asawa people, Mr. Ishaku Ilia narated that the fight erupted following a football match on Sunday, 31st March, 2024 that led to the stabbing of the boy which subsequently led to the burning of 6 Agatu houses who had fled the community immediately.

Comrade Adamu who commiserated with the family and the Asawa community appealed to them not to embark on any reprisal attack but to allow the law to take it’s course. He commended the community vigilante group for ensuring that the situation did not escalate thereby leading to further loss of lives or properties.

The father of the deceased, Ubale Kushi thank the Chairman for the quick intervention. He however demanded justice for his slain child.

The DPO assured the communities of due diligence by the police in the course of the investigation. He appealed for calm while the Police continues it’s job.

Alh. Seidu Adoga Aliyu, Obaro of Omuwa thanked the Chairman and Police for the quick response. He requested the Chairman to order the suspension of all football competition in the area till further notice.

The Chairman directed the traditional ruler to invite the Agatu chief and to cooperate with the Police in the investigation so that the culprit(s) are brought to book.

Meanwhile, the corpse of the deceased has been brought to Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja for autopsy.
