There was uproar at the Kogi State government house gate on Tuesday as a police officer identified as Mohammed Isah threatened to attack labour union leaders with tear gas.
The policeman made the threat when workers in the state marched to the government house while participating in the nationwide new minimum wage protest.
Isah threatened to attack the Kogi State chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Onuh Edoka and his Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, Ranti Ojo if they make further move to enter the State Government House.
The Nigeria Labour Congress alongside other other labour unions embarked on a peaceful protest to the government house to press home their demands for the quick implementation of the new minimum wage.
The labour leaders made attempts to explain to the angry looking Police officer (Isah) and other security men on duty at the gate that they were on a peace mission and not war.
The overzealous Police officer (Isah), who also threatened to deal with journalists who came to cover the peaceful protest, was seen fuming at every one including his own colleague who came close to the government house gate.
It took the intervention of top security officials at the gate to restore normalcy while the Labour leaders waited patiently for the Chief of Staff to the governor, Chief Edward Onoja to address them on the trending issue.
