Addiction is an intense and uncontrollable urge to engage in a behavior, act or activity despite it harmful consequences.

Victims can be addicted to pornography, hard drugs, gambling, alcohol, video games e.t.c.

According to a recent research, The united States of America is the country with the highest record of alcohol and drug addiction. Over 284 million American citizens between the age of 15 – 64 are addicted to drug and alcohol. While countries like Finland, Australia, Ireland, UK and China tops the chart for gambling. 

Formal US President Donald Trump lost over $916 million. Charles Barkley lost a whooping sum of $131 million. 

Youths and younger boys are mostly addicted to the newest form of sport bets commonly know in Nigeria as BET9JA. This has contributed to economical crisis and hardship in the country.

Addiction to video games have distracted many students from their academic success. Addiction to pornography has broken many homes and has caused many spiritual leaders to loss their sanity.

Causes of this addiction.

Some of the factors responsible for triggering addiction are: cravings, compulsion, loss of control, boredom and many amongst others.

Negative effects of addiction. 

* Waste of resources.

* Waste of time 

* Attempted suicides which may also results to loss of lives . 

The possible solutions to addiction of any kind.

Set a quit date.

Make up your mind to stop no matter what. It will not be easy at first but be determined and deliberate to stand your ground.

Distract yourself.

It is been said that idleness is devil’s workshop. This means it is in the absence of any engagement that results to falling going back to your old ways . Whenever the urge to water the addition comes , shake it off and fine something to get yourself busy with.

Seek professional  support.

Addiction in some cases can be overcome single handedly. However, if it persists after many unfruitful attempts, seek the help and services of a specialist and be sure to adhere to their Dos and don’ts as instructed.
