The General Overseer of Chapel of Freedom International Churches, Lokoja, Bishop John Ibenu, has called on people holding public offices to imbibe the spirit of genuine servant leadership.
Speaking at the 33rd year anniversary of the church in Lokoja on Sunday, Bishop Ibenu said the essence of leadership is to serve the people.
Citing the teachings of Jesus to his disciples, Bishop Ibenu said anyone who want to lead must be a servant.
“I admonish leaders to imbibe the spirit of servant leadership, not by mouth but by example.
“Leaders in our land must look into the welfare of the people and work to make life easy for the people. Things are challenging for the people and I call on leaders to make life better for all,” he said.
Speaking on the ministry’s journey so far, the cleric said it has been 33 years of God’s help, mercy and faithfulness.

“In the Bible, someone asked, can anything good come out of Nazareth? But that is where the saviour came from. This is the story of Lokoja, the story of Kogi state. Many good things are coming out of Kogi state. Our ministry is one of those. Many good things will still come out of Kogi state,” he said.
When asked about the challenges faced in the last three decades, Bishop Ibenu said “God is always equal to the tasks, meeting all our needs. He sent us to be a solution to the land. That is why we continue to pray for peace, stability, progress and prosperity.”
