The Ododo School to School Campaign (OSSC) organisation, has commended Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello for his unprecedented achievement in the education sector of Kogi state.

In a statement issued by the organisation’s convener, Comrade Umar Abduljelil Adabara, in Lokoja, on Sunday, OSSC said Governor Yahaya Bello is courageous, a noble nationalist, visionary and iconic leader in the history of Kogi state for his bold step and readiness to implement one of his cardinal campaign promises during the 2019 electioneering by his recent declaration of free education at basic and post-primary education levels in the state.

Governor Yahaya Bello disclosed this while addressing Executive Council members of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Kogi State chapter and medical students from Federal University Lokoja, some weeks ago.

According to Abduljelil, the free education policy implementation ripple effect would lead to the significant enrollment of street children into schools, mitigation of enormous financial burdens and measures being taken to cushion the economic hardship on parents and families resulting from the removal of subsidy on petrol by the Federal Government.

In his comprehensive evaluation and assessment of New Direction administration of Governor Yahaya Bello since November, 2015 to present, he said the governor is a performer with the miraculous recovery of education system in the state.

Abduljelil said “my governor is a perfomer to have rescued the state education from sinking following the assumption of office in 2015. Governor Bello implemented various interventions such as the expansion and creation of more schools, colleges and tertiary institutions in the three geopolitical districts. I will also applaud him for the proscription of ASUU strikes as a perennial problems in the state owned institutions.”

“The declaration of state of emergency in education by the governor was meant to regain its lost glory in education, introduction of school adoption and mentorship programme was implemented to enhance overall schools performance, increase of budgetary allocation to 30% beyond the UNESCO benchmark (26%) for education by His Excellency, was a hallmark achievement in Nigeria.”

The convener further stated, in his evaluation, that the introduction of Korean-Nigerian Friendship Institute is to facilitate the transfer of knowledge amongst the state owned tertiary institutions, distribution of 11,000 free textbooks to all Senior Secondary Schools (SSS) across the three senatorial districts and the recent recruitment of teachers to fill some voids created as a result of expansion and facelift given by the APC led government which has catapulted the rating of Kogi education to a higher pedestal in Nigeria.

He saluted the foot soldiers in the Ministry of Education, particularly, the commissioner for education, Hon. Wemi Jones, his entire crew and other relevant stakeholders in the sector for the seamless implementation of various policies of government since he assumed office.

Abduljelil charged the good people of Kogi state to vote APC candidate, Ododo Ahmed Usman, into the Lugard House overwhelmingly in the November 11 governorship election for consolidation, sustainability and economic prosperity so that he can continue the indelible footprints achieved by his boss.
