I am not a fan of any politician in this country but what can I do, other than to continue to give my humble advice to whoever cares because this is my country and I do not have any other country except Nigeria.
As regards to the cattle colony being proposed in the country and more especially Kogi State, I personally do not support it because of the social antecedent of the Fulanis anywhere they reside. They prefer to have a domineering effect wherever they are concentrated and hence very difficult to listened to the indigenous inhabitants of the place the live and that kind of attitude always breeds conflicts at a long run.
I advise the Kogi State Governor to tread cautiously before ceding some part of Kogi lands to this people. Time has changed, the Fulanis we know in the eighties are not they ones we are seeing now. That is the truth. They have become sophisticated in terms of weaponry, even though most of them are not educated. They are very quick in mobilising their members (in case of trouble) than any tribe in the world, and so, such people should be regarded as time bomb at any time and cannot be trusted.
I further suggest that they should be registered in the State and anyone who wants to carry on the business of cattle rearing be made to acquire some land for grazing with some subsidy from the state government for a period of five years during which such person is allowed cheap land acquisition, tax free and some other incentives like access to free veterinary doctors. That way, they will be prepared for when they will be asked to fully take care of their businesses.
All these involves serious campaign and enlightenment.
Therefore ceding any part of the state as cattle colony is not acceptable to me. We should think of the future of our children and not immediate solution that will not last or stop this conflicts. Let us be realistic with ourselves, herdsmen/farmers conflicts predates the 1980s and cannot be stopped just like that. They only solution is anti-open-grazing which is practiced all over the world because time has changed and we must change with it. Our next generations owe us this duty please.
