The situation of Dekina and its environ has reached shocking levels. Ignorance and lack of good parental up bringing are the major root causes of thuggery in Anyigba and Dekina LGA in particular. In today’s acrimonious Nigerian setting, political thuggery has become an aspect of social violence which is devastating in Nigerian democracy.

This social and political menace has become detrimental to democratic sustainability in Nigerian politics as thugs move in groups victimising, terrorising, intimidating and injuring innocent individuals and politicians. Precisely, this phenomenon affects individuals and pose deadly threats by deterring individuals to be active in political processes and routine socioeconomic activities at their homes, shops and on the streets.

Elites that ought to educate youths now sponsor political thuggery in Dekina LGA. Recall that elite theory stated that elites are responsible for recruiting and training of thugs to serve their selfish interest of maintaining and controlling political power. It’s high time our youths became rational.

The state of thuggery in Anyigba, Dekina LGA, Kogi State is a mission state of destruction rather than peace and harmony. Why? Youths in Anyigba that are known for fighting for their rights are now sponsored today as agents of destruction and ungodly acts. This is backwardness.

If you could remember, some of us that were born and brought up in Anyigba in early 80s to 2000 met well coordinated youths that taught social norms and values.

Going on a memorial line, I could remember how some of us gathered in late Alhaji NDA of Iji house with the likes of Simon Okolo, Salisu Omanife, Mutari Yahaya, Awalu Igono, Akoji Abedi, Azuru Aso Ochale and the rest for the purpose of taking lectures and other forms of social valuable orientations such as discussion centered on universities and course of studies. This made 95% of us to attend universities like ABU Zaira, University of Lagos, UNN, Benue State University Makurdi, University of Ibadan, University of Abuja, Uthman Danfodio University, BUK and the rest prestigious citadel of learning in Nigeria.

Without being fallacious, some us today are now Lawyers, Engineers, Medical Doctors, Pharmacists, Mathematicians, Psychiatrists, Economists, Historians, Political Scientists and Philosophers. This today is a remarkable achievement among Igalas in these wonderful professions.

Remember, social enlightenment is not all about political thuggery or other forms of destruction. We could remember back then in school, some of us who had political interest became students’ leaders during our days in our respective citadel of learning. In fact, we organized extra moral classes for our younger ones in their various field of studies. What is in vogue today? It’s now thuggery instead of social enlightenment gathering.

In the area of students unionism in Kogi state, I could remember how the likes of Isah Kpaleko, Elemoma Sam Jose, Ikani Okolo, Earnest Obetule, Kabiru Isah(Otex), Charles Ile Umoru, Joseph Ataja(Boy Ataja), Abdullahi Ogalla Isaac, Alfa Ebune, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, Achor Enemali Samson, Johnson Musa, Usman Yunusa, Unekwu Charles Baba and the rest from Anyigba fought for the right of the whole Igalas for NAKOSS to be rotational between the three axis in the state. To be candid, it was the same group that wrote a proposal to the then governor on the need to have SA on students affairs.

If radical and rational, had it been the above mentioned people were thugs or cultists and killed themselves, would they be alive fighting for what most of us are benefiting today?

If I may ask, how many of your cultism or thuggery leaders that are giving you fake and devilish orientation made above list of freedom fighters?

To tell you the truth, those nuisance leader giving you fake and devilish orientation were nobody during their days in the schools they managed to attend. In fact, none of them could speak good English in the class, let alone being students’ leader.

My brothers, common sense should also tell you that there is no gain in thuggery. The only gain in thuggery is untimely death, uncomfortable life and also putting your family in shame.

Check around you, how many of those thugs killed over the years do you see their children living a comfortable life? How many of their children are on scholarship? Where are their wives today?

Today, we are seeing the same politicians their husbands died for are also dating them today. I am advising you to learn from what you are seeing in our immediate environment and shun thuggery.
