Senator Smart Adeyemi represented Kogi West senatorial district in the upper chamber of the national assembly between 2007 and 2015. He lost to incumbent Senator Dino Daniel Melaye narrowly in a keenly contested election in 2015. Aside his publicised decamping from Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Smart has been quiet but recently, he has been on a tour of Kogi West moving from one town to the other.
Smart Adeyemi’s recent tour has caused many to begin to ask questions on what his motives are. Some are of the opinion that the cerebral politician is touring the seven local governments in Kogi West to help Governor Yahaya Bello recall Senator Melaye successfully. Giving his robust political structure in the district, Smart Adeyemi is most suitable to achieve what many thought is impossible. Smart is a great mobilizer who commits his spirit, soul and body into any cause he believes in. It is being rumoured that Smart has been promised APC Senate ticket if he succeed in recalling Dino. If he is truly in cahoot with move to recall his successor, Dino Melaye, one can expect more pulsating drama in weeks to come.
For those who believe the recall adventure is a wild goose chase, they see a bigger picture in Smart Adeyemi’s recent moves. They see Smart’s tour as a deliberate move to resurrect his political structure in preparation for 2019 Kogi West senate race. Being a new member of the ruling APC, Smart need to prove to his new political allies that he has all it takes to win the all-important 2019 senate race if given the party’s ticket.
In less than 10 days, Smart has criss-crossed the 7 local government areas in the district. It is still uncertain what he is looking for, 2017 or 2019 ticket.
