I strongly believe that the people of Kogi West have realized the mistake of 2015, the mistake of testing the depth of a river with both feet. We have realized the difference between representation and quality representation.
It is not just enough to go about with the name “Senator of the Federal Republic”, what is most important is the positive impact you have on your constituency. Your constituents must be proud of your character and work. In Kogi West, our pride has diminished, it has become embarrassing to be identified with our representative in the red chamber.
Having tested the depth of the river, unfortunately with both feet in, we struggle to avoid drowning. As the world flashes on our faces and reality downed on us, we begin to appreciate the time of a man who gave us so much pride, a man who’s record of community service and quality representation is unmatched, a man focused, matured, intelligent, with eyes on the goal. The man Smart Adeyemi.
It is an undeniable fact that during the days of Smart Adeyemi in the Senate, Kogi West and indeed the entire Kogi State was accorded the respect it deserved. This is because it is said that you are addressed the way you are dressed. Senator Smart Adeyemi dressed up the people of Kogi West in royalty and we ware addressed as such. Hence, the Federal attention that we got.
Senator Smart, for the benefit of the people that he represented jettisoned pride and selfishness, maintained a good working relationship with his colleagues and the Executive both in the State and at the Federal level. This is because as a man who is well read, he understands the benefits of a peaceful and harmonious working relationship with all stakeholders. It gives you the power of influence.
With the power of effective collaboration, Senator Smart was able to influence several Federal Government projects to his constituency. A Federal University to Kogi West, A Naval base. On his part, Senator Smart constructed an Hospital in Igbaruku, Blocks of Lockup shops, Boreholes, Over 485 vehicles were shared to constituents, through me as the then National President of Okun Students (NAOS National) 2014, Multi-million naira scholarship was awarded to over 2000 students among many others. He influenced employments, State and Federal appointments for his constituents. You cannot achieve this when you are always knuckled up to wrestle everybody.
He also accorded the deserved respect to the traditional institution of the land. He was home based and connected with both the youths and the elderly.
His empowerment programs cuts across the length and width of Kogi West. From the river side of Koto to the valley of Egbe, his impact is felt.
Up till date, Senator Smart Adeyemi has maintained the reputation of a refined gentleman with good relationship with the masses and those vested with the responsibility of building a better Kogi State. He believes in collective responsibility.
We need Smart Adeyemi back in the red chambers.
We want him to return and consolidate on what he left, he is the man to rebuild the image of Kogi West and restore our glory.
