Kogi State University as a state owned institution should be a major priority of the Government rather the way things turns otherwise. At times people says government primary motive is for the welfarism of
the people I keep wondering if actually it is.
Welfarism of the people that there is an increment in the State owned University tuition fee, Slow and steady educational system due to the yearly strike action, Non payment of remuneration to workers and countless
barriers.
It is a pity that the Government has successfully tarnish the reputation of the University. I feels bad each time someone place bad reputation on Kogi Government due to unexploited resources and maladministration of the Government. The public sector accounting I looked into, exposed me to some part of Government source of revenue
which made me realized The statutory allocation for each state to be 24% while 20% for local Government and as well as special fund of 7.5%. But how does each state Governors go about this huge sum of money with Other Revenue from Federal Government as grants and other internally generated revenue.
I wonder what the state House of assembly has been doing regarding the current situation in the State. The state House of assembly are given the virtue to undertake several tasks that are against the people welfarism, mismanagement of public funds by any public officer, screen the appointees of the the Governors and ensure they are people of unquestionable character and many more. But to my surprise, House of assembly does what favors them alone not thinking of the multiplier effects on the people of the state.
The legislative arm of Government are known as the “Controller of purse”. In the sense of ensuring transparency, accountability on each public funds received and also taking into account of money spent on capital projects and other expenditures. With all these virtue given to them according to the Constitution guiding the nation, Everything
keeps deteriorating. What a arm of Government!!!
Ever since the inception of Senate I never heard of impeachment of erring Presidents and Governors of which it is part of their function as slated in the Constitution. I believe if all these were followed, Kogi State would have been free from corrupts Government.
Just of recent, I was registering prospective JAMB candidates for the on going jamb registration of which out of the 100 plus students I registered for, non of the candidates chooses Kogi State University because of their routine strike action. Another major problem strike cause is that it makes Small business owners to go beyond the minimum
stock level when they rightly believes no students will be around to purchase their products.
The recent strike action embarked on the Earliest of February 2017 made me realized without Students in Ayingba, their petty sellers will be experiencing what they call “short of funds” The strike action has different negative effects not alone chasing students from choosing the institution but also for the poor Petty sellers, bike men and others who have in one way or the other benefited from the system during school session.
Another major challenge we have in the state is the area of which the stakeholders in state refuses to intervene to the current misfortune of the state. Where are the Leaders of the state, seeing their state’s tertiary institutions destroying gradually without any reasonable compliance with the government and ASUU thinking since their children aren’t affected they shows less Concerns.
If things in Kogi state continues this way, things would be getting worse to an extent of an uncontrollable action. It is in KSU, a student will spend more than 4years duration for a programme of 3½ years because of the internal strike action. My biggest sympathy is for the 100l and 200l students above the age of 23-27yrs which obviously we knows the implications of this when we arrive at the labor market. 80% of companies demands the age range of 22-26yrs as
employment age which reduce Graduates of 27yrs and above chances of being employed.
Kogi Government, Kogi lecturers, Kogi Stakeholders. The future of the state rest on your shoulders. One body out of it will make the state experience drawback in the educational system not alone the 3 are less concerned. A positive change in Kogi State Tertiary institutions will develop the state.
Kogi State Government, Please make Education a priority….
