The word “new” when used as a detached prefix to direction will ignite any right thinking mind but alas, the Kogi State self styled “new direction” government seem to have ridiculed this phenomenon as the hopes, aspiration, goodwill and enthusiasm of the neutral but objective hitherto supporters of this government have turned into subconscious apprehensions and dilemma.

Whether directly or indirectly; positively or negatively; every kogite is affected by the current administration and this effects are of course the idea behind “the good, the bad and the ugly of Kogi state new direction”. Whereas the opportunistic circles that are at the helm of affairs in Kogi State still amidst the daily fading popularity still have time to make amends, I want to in my own informal account highlight the impression of Kogites about this government within the shores of good, bad and ugly.

THE GOOD: As much as the government is derailing, the true sense of leadership and active involvement of youths in highly placed public offices is a commendable direction. Be it for probation or the test of time, this innovation has no doubt sent signal of generational shift to the expired political pessimists who see dominance as a life support venture. In fact, it has created preparedness for youths at all level to warm up for their rightful positions and the next political dispensation is going to justify this submission.

THE BAD: While it is recommendation worthy that youths have been actively involved in this government, it is worrisome and very bad to have completely excluded elders whose words and experiences are too paramount to be discarded especially at a time like now when the state is facing serious security challenges, economic crisis, unending staff screening and verification exercise. Of course men are not made wise by the recollection of the past but by the responsibility of the future. Hence, elderly advises would be a shaping tool for unforseen circumstances that may arise in the course of executing positive inexplicable policies such as the unending screening.

THE UGLY: Just as the saying goes, “pride goes before fall”. Words of elders are words of wisdom. Hence, the consequences of not seeking counsel is always unavoidable. It is for this reason therefore that the consequences surrounding the bad has metamorphosed into an ugly new direction. Unpaid salaries arising from unending screening, kidnaps arising from improperly planned security measures and countless deaths traceable to the hardships meted by screening.

By and large, no man is too strong to live forever and no man is too weak to die more than once. However, testimonies and confessions that shall be said about a deceased are predicted by his living. The new directions is so far below the expectation of average Kogites and the earlier the policy makers make amends, the better for their chronicles. Surely, one hundred years is not for ever and four years shall therefore pass like a twinkle of an eye when the time is ripe.
