The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward Onoja has extolled the roles played by Igala Cultural Development Association (ICDA) during the recent elections in the state.

Onoja made this known when played host to the group in Lokoja on Friday.

The Deputy Governor stated that ICDA distinguished itself by remaining non-partisan in the heat of the elections.

He noted that ICDA as a group did not endorse any candidate but asked Igalas to choose from the best option that brings development to the Igala nation. This noble position, he said, came on the heels of some groups whom were extensions of political parties, masquerading under the Igala nation, pretending to be speaking for the Igala people but endorsing a certain political party.

Onoja commended Governor Yahaya Bello for the level of love he has shown to the Igala people and still showing.

“Every now and then, the Governor makes it a head point on how funds should be made readily available for the completion of the Anyigba Township and Dekina Township roads,” he said.

The socio-cultural group which serves as the umbrella group for all Igala branch groups was led by the National President, Abubakar Sadiq on a congratulatory visit to the Deputy Governor on the electoral victory of the GYB/CEDO mandate.

The President thanked the Governor and his deputy for the good work done so far in Igala land, highlighting Igala Unity House, lift of ban on some Igala festivals along with ongoing road infrastructure in the region.

He also used the opportunity to solicit further beef up of security in Igala land, stating that the season economic boom through sales of cashew products has come. He appealed to the state government to protect farmers.

Responding, the Deputy Governor reiterated continuous efforts of the government aimed at stemming insecurity in the land. He said the criminals can only hide for now as they will all be smoked out because Governor Bello zero tolerance for crimes and criminality.

He also disclosed how the state government has deepened efforts to stem deaths from indiscriminate creations of chiefdoms and granting of conflicting traditional titles.
