Billionaire businessman, Bashorun Jide Omokore, is the new bride that is been courted by leading political parties in Kogi State.
Governorship candidates of the serious political parties in Kogi State are all Igala and the Speaker of the House of Assembly is Ebira, so all eyes are now on Okun people to supply the deputy-governorship candidates for all the parties in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
Okunland is predominantly PDP but the last house of assembly election showed that the Omokore group are in control when the group successfully upstaged PDP in Ijumu, Mopa/Amuro, Yagba East and Yagba West. This feat sent signals to political gladiators that the Omokore group and not PDP are in control of Okunland.
The Omokore group supported the Kutepa during the last governorship primaries in Kogi State but did not go into the contest as one united family as a prominent member of family, Senator Smart Adeyemi, queued behind Jubrin Isah Echocho. The group lost to the superior strategies employed by governor Ibrahim Idris in favour of his son-in-law, Captain Idris Wada.
Now that the primaries have been won and lost, Ibro has approached Omokore for mutual working agreement to ensure Wada’s victory in the December 3 elections. Ibro offered the Omokore group the deputy governorship slot.
Apart from Ibro, the Audu camp has approached Omokore with similar request. Audu and Omokore are good friends, they visit each other regularly in Abuja. Audu has promised to accept anybody Omokore present to him as running mate.
The choice of running mate will to a large extent determine who wins the december elections.
As at today, it is yet to be confirmed which party Omokore will support though he is a full fledged PDP member but he is said to have penciled Chief Tunde Olusunle for the deputy governorship slot.
