Kogi State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Timothy Ojomah, has assured that the state-owned the Omi Mill will soon commence production of rice.
Speaking on this week’s edition of State of Kogi, a Radio Kogi audience participatory programme, Ojomah said the present administration is making efforts to ensure that the state eats what it produces.
He added that the name “Confluence Rice” will be sustained.
According to World Food Programme, due to conflict and insecurity, rising inflation and the impact of the climate change, about twenty six point five million people across Nigeria are projected to face acute hunger in the June-August 2024 lean season.
The Commissioner stated that Governor Usman Ododo has walked the talk as tractors have been distributed across the twenty one local government areas of the State to enhance farming.
He added that the wet season farming flagged off recently by Governor Ododo at Geregu in Ajaokuta local government area was one of the moves by the government to revive the agric sector.
He called on the people of the State to return to farm as measures have been put in place to safeguard the farmlands.
He pointed out that the just concluded registration of farmers across the State was targeted at enhancing adequate data collection and planning for the sector.
