The Executive Chairman of Omala local government area, Hon. Labaran Y. Oyigebe has approved the commencement of a monthly youth empowerment programme for the council as from December this year.

The Chairman who made this known in a telephone interview, said the youth empowerment scheme is part of his initiative to meet the needs of the downtrodden in the local government.

The council boss stressed that the programme is basically for the unemployed youth as it will not engage youth who are already engaged in one thing or the other.

According to him, “Thirty beneficiaries each will be selected from across the eleven wards in the local government and will be paid a monthly stipend. This programme is not for the clique of youths who had already been engaged in any empowerment exercise but for those who are downtrodden and are seriously in need of government assistance”.

“I must also sound a note of warning that anybody in an attempt to abuse the goals and objectives of this noble initiative will not go scot free. The slots are not meant for family friends and relatives”, he added.

It will be recalled that , several interventions have been made by Hon. “Agbaka” in areas of free ICT training, erosion control and provision of drinkable water, to mentioned but a few.

The steps taken by the council Chairman as recorded in past are clear indications that the council boss is on the right track and making progress steadily. It shows someone who is concious of his actions and determined to achieve his goals within a stipulated time frame.
