The Olu of Apata, Oba Frederick Balogun, has congratulated Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN) on his appointment as Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by President Bola Tinubu.
The traditional ruler, who gave the message in a statement in Lokoja on Friday, described Amupitan as a patriotic Nigerian, suitable for the INEC job.
Balogun said that the choice and appointment of Amupitan as the new INEC Chairman by the president did not come as a surprise, given his pedigree as a legal luminary.
“The appointment is, to us in Apata-Ipatun and Kogi, a welcome development, having our very son at the helm of the commission
“We indeed, appreciate Tinubu for finding him worthy for the exalted position. We have no doubt in his ability to deliver on his mandate,” he said.
The monarch, however, prayed God to grant him His divine grace, wisdom and understanding to pilot the affairs of the Commission successfully and creditably.
President Tinubu had, on Thursday, presented Amupitan as the nominee to the National Council of State for approval to fill the vacant position, following Prof. Mahmood Yakubu’s exit.
The Council had approved the nomination of Amupitan from Kogi, North-Central, as the new Chairman of INEC.
