Senator Mohammed Salami Ohiare has denied interest in succeeding Dr. Ado Ibrahim as the Ohinoyi of Ebira Land.

His denial was contained in a statement issued on behalf of his family by Dr. Sanusi Ohiare.

The statement distanced the former Senator from any purported interest in the vacant throne of Ohinoyi of Ebiraland.

“This disclaimer has become necessary in the light of a trending social media post by a certain blog, Ebira4Real, on their Meta (Facebook) page on 30th November, 2023 where Distinguished Senator Ohiare was listed as one of many prominent sons of Egbiraland vying for the vacant throne.

“We wish to state unequivocally that our father has no ambition whatsoever in this regard, and therefore urge the general public to disregard the misleading post.

“We wish to reiterate that Senator Ohiare’s only desire is to continue his quiet work as a veritable elder statesman, for the continued unity, peace, security, progress and overall development of Egbiraland and Nigeria at large,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Kogi state government has commenced the succession process to fill the vacant stool of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barr Deedat Ozigi confirmed the new development in a statement on Monday.

The press statement signed by Enero Rufai Sule, media aide to the Commissioner, said the ministry top hierarchy interfaced with the Ebira Area Traditional Council at the Palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland to initiate succession procedure to enthrone the next Ohinoyi of Ebiraland.

“The Honourable Commissioner after reading out the edict that guides the Stool, constituted and inaugurated the committee of King Makers to commence an immediate work of receiving and scrutinizing application letters from interested and eligible sons of Ebiraland, as prescribed by the law.

“The committee’s work is expected to last through the week till Friday, the 15th of December, 2023 whereby their recommendations shall be received by the Ministry, for onward treatment,” the statement added.
