Is a commentary written by Abu Mike and looks at the achievements the administration of Major Olafimihan Okeowo Akerejola, Council Chairman of Ogori-Magongo has recorded amidst dwindling financial resources.
Right from the onset, when Major Olafimihan Okeowo Akerejola was elected as the Council Chairman of Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State, it was clear that he is determined to rewrite the Local Government’s history of neglect.
Created in 1996, and despite the amazing depth of her human resources, Ogori-Magongo LGA, failed to rise to the level expected by its founding fathers at the creation.
From the point when he served as Liaison Officer 1, Hon Akerejola, left no one in doubt that he has the capacity, character and competence to change the fortune of the Local Government Area.
Little wonder, at the council election of 3rd May, 2013, he was overwhelmingly voted into office, a decision that has indeed made the people believe they have not made the wrong choice .
As Captain Idris Wada visits Ogori-Magongo Local Government tomorrow, in continuation of his thank you tour and to inaugurate projects executed by the State and Local Government Area respectively, it is important to state that for the people of Ogori-Magongo LGA, the tour will reveal that Major Akerejola’s mandate, despite the challenges of inadequate resources, is a mandate justified.
Guided by the spirit of development and the desire to use the commonwealth he holds in trust for the people to better their lots, Hon Akerejola has touched the lives of the people in diverse ways.
Some of the laudable people- oriented projects executed and to be inaugurated by the Governor include; the reconstructed Local Government Secretariat, which is to provide more office accommodation and a conducive working environment for workers.
The Governor will inaugurate the new office administrative office complex built by the Hon Akerejola led government for the local government education authority (LGEA), the renovated blocks of classroom and administrative structures at the Community Comprehensive High School, Ogori as well as flag-off the distribution of empowerment tools for artisans in the local government area.
The governor during the visit , will make a stop over at the ultra-modern sports complex, consisting of two volleyball courts, a basket ball court and long tennis court. The sports project is part of the administration’s efforts to gainfully engage the youths.
In the area of potable water, Major Akerejola’s administration has provided several motorized bore holes with plastic overhead tanks across the ten wards of the Local Government Area.
Also in the area of electricity, the administration purchased and replaced wooden poles with concrete poles; some of them fixed with street lights to lighten up the communities. The administration also purchased and installed a 500KVA transformer to boost electricity supply to the secretariat.
To curb the menace of erosion, several drainages and ring culverts have been constructed all spread across the Local Government Area.
The Hon Akerejola led administration has done quite a lot to secure the local government. Apart from regular assistance to security agencies, the administration recently procured ten motorcycles and gave logistics to security agencies to aid in the effective patrol of the Local Government Area
The administration has also made it a routine responsibility to provide free instructional materials to pupils and students in schools within the Local Government Area. This is besides the bursary awards to students in tertiary institutions.
Determined to boost the council’s internally generated revenue, the administration also undertook to construct almost forty lock- up shops spread across the Local Government.
With so much work done in Ogori-Magongo LGA under the Major Akerejola led administration, one is tempted to say that a day’s visit may not be enough to showcase what have been achieved by the administration, within the last one year it has been in office.
Suffice it to say that, the people of Ogori-Magongo LGA, who are appreciative of the visit, will no doubt turn out in their hundreds to welcome the Governor to thank him for the giant strides his administration has made in the State. While it is an acknowledged fact that Major Akerejola, has keyed into the Governor’s transformation agenda, the rousing welcome the Governor will be given is also an indication that the people are appreciative, that like the Governor, Hon Akerejole has done quite a lot to touch their lives in diverse ways.
Without mincing words, the peace and development so far witnessed in Ogori-Magongo Local Government is a product of the peoples justified mandate. Welcome Your Excellency to Ogori Magongo LG and see a democracy that is working.
