AS the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), gears up for its primaries in October ahead of the 2015 polls, the Chairman of Ogori/Magongo Local Government Council, Major Olafimihan Akerejola (rtd) has formally indicated his intention to contest the Ogori/Magongo House of Assembly seat.
Akerejola, who made this known to the Local Government party executive and selected stakeholders at a dinner he hosted in their honour, said he took the decision to contest in other to sustain the existing peace in the area.
According to the council boss, the decision is not borne out of greed or some other mundane considerations, saying that since elected as council chairman, he has given direction to governance and has not spared any effort to provide purposeful leadership.

He told the party executive that it is no longer a rumour that he is seeking the party’s ticket to represent the constituency in the state assembly in 2015, stressing that, “if before this time, you have heard the rumour, I am now confirming to you that I am in the race for the House of Assembly come 2015”.
He said his decision to host the party executive was in line with his earlier promise that when he eventually makes up his mind, the executive would be the first to be informed, adding that soon, they would receive his letter of intent.
While saying that he has carefully considered his decision, Akerejola noted that his being in the assembly would be in the best interest of the people of the area, as he would work hard to sustain the peace presently being engendered as a result of the resolve of the member representing the area in the assembly, Hon Gabriel Daudu and himself to work together since his election.
He reiterated that unlike in the past when the relationship between council chairmen and the assembly members from the area was like a cat and rat relationship, Hon Daudu and himself were able to rise beyond their initial political differences to work for the common good of the area and its people. His driving force, therefore, he said, is how to sustain such a legacy.
While speaking on the chances of the party in the 2015 election, Akerejola remarked that in Ogori/Magongo, he is not aware of the existence of any other political party, pointing that the PDP has no opposition.
He praised the party executive for being vibrant and visionary, assuring them that if given the ticket, he would, not only represent the party well, he would not disappoint the electorate just as he has not disappointed them since his election as council chairman over a year ago.
In his remark, the Local Government party chairman, Hon Felix Ologun thanked him for the honour and praised him for the landmark achievements he has so far recorded as council chairman.
While promising that level-playing ground would be accorded all aspirants, he urged against acrimonious campaigns and tasked aspirants to eschew politics of character assassination.
