National Youth Summit on Employability, Entrepreneurship and Mentorship (NYSEEM), says it has concluded plan to organise a maiden summit to enhance youths employability, entrepreneurial skills and capacity development.
Mr Segun Silas, the Convener and Lead Strategist, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lokoja, said the summit would give participants an edge over their peers through mentorship.
He added that the program would enable the youths to build capacity and enhance their access to trending employability skills, business frontiers, conquer more territories and generate more ideas.
“Over the years, in the course of our capacity building programs, we identified a gap that exists between the knowledge possessed by youths seeking employment and the actual skills needed by their would be employers.
“We also noticed that a serious gap exist between the skills youths in the informal sector are able to deliver with the real needs from the different sectors of the economy.
“There is no standardized platform to bridge this gap and bring about a defined training or mentorship that will enable these youths acquire skills that suits real market need.
“Most importantly, the youths lack real entrepreneurship drive and skills which are necessary for starting up sustainable and thriving businesses, as well as becoming intrapreneurs as employees.
“This maiden summit will be the first step towards the development of the first entrepreneurship skill acquisition platform that is market driven and industry focused,” Silas said.
He added that the summit would systematically redirect youth mentality towards employment and facilitates their fast move through the corporate ladder in their respective organisations and ultimately lead to their competitive positioning in industry.
Silas said the participants would experience a paradigm shift in three thematic areas such as employment, entrepreneurship and mentorship, saying “NYSEEM is an advocacy tool for youth engagement and development.
“Although it is a long term process; one can be assured that we have started the journey towards bridging the skill gap between youths and opportunities in either gainful employment or entrepreneurship.
“NYSEEM is a summit on tour, that will extend across the country. The maiden edition will commence in Lokoja on September 29, and subsequently be extended to other Cities across Nigeria”.
The convener enjoined individuals, groups and stakeholders to add value to the youth population as their own quota of been useful to this generation and beyond.
