The Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Zone D, has bemoaned the continuous insecurity in the North Central geo-political zone of the country, particularly, Benue state.

The Vice President of NUJ Zone D, Comrade Chris Atsaka, who stated this in response to the kidnap of the Benue Information Commissioner, Hon. Mathew Abo, in Ukum Local Government Area, of the state, described the insecurity in the zone as worrisome and one desiring drastic steps by the government and security operatives to halt the trend.

Atsaka who berated the unending threat to lives also condemned strongly, the latest abduction of the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism in Benue State, Hon Matthew Abo late Sunday, September 24, 2023.

He recalled with regret the spate of abductions, kidnappings, banditry and other forms of criminal activities urging the government and security agencies to redouble effort at halting the trend.

He decried activities of bandits in Niger state as well as the continued herdsmen/farmers crisis in Plateau, Benue and Nasarawa state which he said is stunting economic growth in the Zone.

The Vice President sympathized with the people and government of the affected Zone, calling for decisive action to restoring nomalcy in the area.
