The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), Kogi State command has paraded 12 people for illegal mining in the state.
In a statement issued today and signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Ibrahim Tairu, the suspects were apprehended for alleged mining of Feldspar stone at Oworo in Lokoja.
The statement urged individuals interested in mining business to liaise with the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development to obtain license.
It stressed that the new policy of the Federal Government in diversifying the economy has made the government to beam its searchlight in the sector, adding that NSCDC has been saddled with the responsibility of securing all mining sites in the state.
In a related development, the Command yesterday commenced touring of all the 21 local government councils in the state.
The.Kogi State Commandant of the NSCDC, Everestus Obiyo says the tour was to sensitize the people,on the need to be security alert.
