No fewer than 100 women and youths from the eleven wards of Okene Local Government in Kogi State have benefited from Nigeria Port Authority (NPA) vocational skills training and empowerment programme.
Grinding and sewing machines were distributed to beneficiaries of the programme as part of NPA’s corporate social responsibilities.
Leader of the NPA Team, Yusuf Ibrahim Eneye explained that the vocational skills training and empowerment program was targeted at lifting idle youths and women from the shackles of poverty and making them self-reliant.
Speaking at the event in Okene, Eneye, a bosom friend of Okene Local Government Administrator, noted that as a responsible government agency, they had engaged in helping to lift Nigerians out of poverty as part of their social responsibility.
He enjoined the beneficiaries to make good use of the items so as to achieve the desired goal. He praised the commitment and leadership style of Okene Local Government Council Administrator, Engr. Abdulrazaq Muhammad and described him as a perfect gentleman, a result oriented fellow and a lover of peace and development.
In his remark, the Council Administrator, represented by the Council Supervisor for Health, Hon. Suleimam Jatto, assured the agency that the beneficiaries would not only put the items to use as desired but will also train others to be self reliant.
He said the Local Government Council under the leadership of Engr. Abdulrazaq Muhammad will continue to attract meaningful development to the Council from within and outside the state.
