The state commandant of NSCDC, Mr Adedayo Adesuyi in his office in Lokoja on Wednesday that the NSCDC which recently uncovered an illegal refinery located in Oguda Achuze village, a border community between Kogi state and Auchi in Edo state had spread its dragnet to the nook and crannies of the state to arrest perpetrators.
On the discovered illegal refinery, Adesuyi said that many items were seized from the site, which includes; a brown new generating set, an Audi 80 and a Jetta wagon cars, a pumping machine among other things.
“Over 80 drums of diesel and PMS were also seized. “The refinery has about 150,000 litres capacity, and can refine up to 10,000 litres of PMS per day.
“We succeeded in apprehending one of the suspects who is in our custody, and he is currently undergoing interrogations. We believe that the suspect will give us a useful information that will lead to subsequent arrest.
“The arrest was based on an intelligent information we received from a reliable source two weeks ago, which prompted my officers to keep patrolling and monitoring the areas day and night.
“The security challenges facing this nation are enormous, and one of these challenges is the pipelines vandalization, and NSCDC has been mandated to protect all critical infrastructures and national interest,” he explained.
He reiterated that pipelines vandalism will soon become a thing of past in Kogi state. He advised pipelines vandals to take to their heels in the state because it will be zero tolerance to crime and vandalism.
He enjoined government at all levels, corporates bodies and individuals to support them by providing more vehicles and other aid that will enhance NSCDC performance.
“The security of lives and properties require the collective collaborations of everybody in the society. I am also appealing to other paramilitary agents to join the NSCDC in the crusade against crime and vandalism,” said the state Commandant.
