The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kogi State, has commended Governor Usman Ododo for keeping to his promise in the implementation of 100 percent hazard allowance for their members under the employment of the state government.
The medical body gave the commendation in a statement issued in Lokoja on Friday.
The statement, jointly signed by Chairman, Dr Baoku Olusola and Public Relations Officer, Dr Peter Aiyebvowan, also acknowledged the instrumental role played by former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello in making this allowance a reality.
The NMA sees this increase in hazard allowance as a positive step towards improving the welfare of doctors in Kogi State.
They believe that this move will not only attract more doctors to the state but also enhance the commitment and dedication of existing medical professionals in saving the lives of Kogi citizens.
“This is indeed a great start and beginning of greater things to come and for this, Kogi doctors are thankful. Clearly, this is also an attestation to the commitment of this Administration to continue to prioritize the welfare of doctors, a demonstration of the goodwill of the government and the continuation of fruitful and progressive partnership towards taking the Kogi state health sector to an enviable and admirable height of excellence.
“Kogi state had over the years invested massively in health infrastructures, this is the phase to invest in human capital development via good welfare packages, improved salaries and wages for doctors which the state has now begun.
“This is a move we believe will reverse brain drain, halt exodus of doctors to the federal health institutions, attracts more doctors into the state and improve commitment and dedication of Kogi state doctors to saving lives of Kogi citizens,” the statement added.
The association expressed their firm believe in the present administration, adding that they are ready to contribute their own quota for the success of the government.
