The Executive Chairman of Kogi State Science Technical Education and Teaching Service Commission (STETSCOM), Mrs. Cecilia Cook says Nigeria needs a leader with capacity like Governor Yahaya Bello that will provide 30% budgetary allocation to the Education sector as being done in the State.
Mrs. Cook, while speaking with Newsmen in Lokoja on the second anniversary of the second tenure of the Governor, noted that the country needs a youth that has passion to provide security of lives and property of Nigerians.
“In Kogi State for the first time, our budget for the Education sector is 30% of the entire appropriation law for 2022. This is unprecedented, first of its kind in the history of our State and Nigeria as a whole. I think we need someone like His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to lead Nigeria in the next Political dispensation.”
She commended the Governor for his unrepentant monumental achievements in the Education sector, describing his second anniversary of second tenure as eventful, saying the plan to give technical schools in the state a facelift is laudable and a step in the right direction.
According to her, the state witnessed significant improvement in external examination in the year 2021, noting that reports from the State Office of West African Examination Council (WAEC) shows that the results of the last SSCE examination is the best in the history of the State.
She explained that the feat was achieved due to the necessary machineries put in place by the Commission to ensure effective monitoring of schools across the State despite learn resources.
“We have never had it good in the history of WAEC SSCE Examination in the state as the report of the just concluded examination indicates that there’s no poor results including examination malpractice in all the secondary school s both public and private in the state.
“This to the Commission is heartwarming and a welcome development. We have not had it so good in WAEC result like this and I’m delighted that it is happening under the education friendly Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the Executive Governor of Kogi State.”
The STETSCOM boss said principals of schools were redeployed to schools that suit their academic discipline to enable them perform better.
According to her, all the measures put in place are yielding positive results especially with the recent performance of the State in SSCE Examination.
“My administration introduced a policy upon assumption of office. School Principals were redeployed to schools that suit their academic discipline. For instance, those that studied science were taken to Science Secondary Schools, same thing those that studied arts and technical education.”
Mrs. Cook expressed the readiness of government to transform secondary school Education in 2022.
