A public policy analyst and social crusader, Comrade Muhammed Nasiru, has urged Nigerians, and youths in particular to shun acts capable of undermining the peaceful coexistence of the country.
Nasiru made the call in an independence message which he emphasized that the time has come for Nigerians to strengthen the spirit of oneness, unity and national development stressing that stability in all parts of the nation is necessary for reflections on the circumstances that gave birth to the country’s independence.
“Although the journey has been adorned by dark days of colonialism, a shattering civil war, an amateur democracy and even regional insurgency but we have proved to the world that our ethnic, linguistic and religious diversities are only but sources of strength, and not division,” he said.
He described independence day as a period for sober reflection on the state of the nation, saying “no effort must be spared to strengthen the spirit of ideal democratic governance in the country”.
He condemned the rising cases of insurgencies in the country and appealed to aggrieved Nigerians to embrace peace in the interest of all adding that attitudinal change among Nigerians is a panacea to all round development.
According to the erudite Comrade, the Country’s history of nationhood remains a reminder on why we need to strengthen our democracy to promote unity, peace, love, harmony and stability.
