Frontline Kogi governorship aspirant, Dr. Idris Omede has called on politicians in the country to adhere by the signed peace accord to ensure orderly and peaceful 2019 general elections.
Omede made the call in a New Year message sent to Kogireports.
The former President Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) stressed that the signed Peace Accord should not be for result declaration alone, but enforced in the campaign processes.
“Valuable and respected Nigerians and dwellers in Nigeria, as the 2018 closes up, we count our blessing and challenges. May the Gregorian calendar new year usher in a peace and prosperity to us all.
“Critically, politics and general election shall occupy the center stage of the first quarter of year 2019. May we, as a people and nation bring in more decency and orderliness in our conduct in the election processes in line with the SIGNED PEACE Accord by the political parties. This accord should not be on basis of result declaration alone, but in campaign processes.
“Parties should be allowed to campaign on issues freely in their areas of jurisdiction and not molested, harassed, intimidated and beaten, maimed or killed by agents of government or embolden by government.
“Nigeria has come to a stage in our national life and development, where politics should be more about building institutions and systems that work. A system where most if not everyone can freely express self in orderly and decent manner in the canvass and Expression of Social, economic political and infrastructure in soliciting for votes in a secured nation.
“Electoral canvass should not and must not be only at the prerogative of persons in power or government position. Democracy that we preach and practice should be for majority without using instrument of state to disenfranchise many.
“Let us work together in harmony to build a greater nation as the general election beckons,” he said.
