Natural Disasters: Kogi Deputy Gov Flags Off Distribution of Relief Materials

The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward David Onoja, has assured that he will use his office to activate a seamless working relationship with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to acquire adequate relief materials for residents affected by flood and other natural disasters.

Onoja gave the assurance when he flagged off distribution of relief materials by Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in Lokoja on Monday.

The Deputy Governor expressed delight t the timing of the distribution as the relief materials will provide succour to the less privileged during the festive season.

He cautioned SEMA officials against diverting the relief materials which is meant for the needy. He described the New Direction administration as one that operates on the principle of equity and fairness, and one that will not hesitate to deal with anyone found culpable of such acts.

The Executive Secretary of Kogi SEMA, Mr. Mejiyan thanked Governor Yahaya Bello and his Deputy for their support towards alleviating the travails of those affected by flood and other natural disasters.

He stated that the support of the State Government has been key in acquiring the materials, and sought for an even more productive relationship in the coming year.

Relief materials such as sorghum, mattresses, mats, soaps and other essential items were provided for distribution.

In the spirit of the season, Chief Edward Onoja, on behalf of Governor Bello, also gifted the flood victims 1000 bags of 2Kg rice to add to what was made available for distribution.
