An NGO, the Dual Care and HIV Prevention Initiative (DCI), Lokoja, has bestowed the year 2017 “Media Ambassador of Credence’’ Award on the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Reporter in Kogi, Mr Stephen Adeleye.
NAN reports that DCI is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), giving care and support to the health, nutrition and education of vulnerable children and children living with HIV, HIV prevention, women empowerment and cancer network among others.
Presenting the award to the reporter in Lokoja on Wednesday, the Executive Director of the NGO, Mrs Roseline Alabi, said the recipient was nominated due to his personal leadership traits, and commitment to giving balanced news reportage across the state.
According to her, a committee was set up which has members from all the 21 local government areas across the state who independently assessed all the nominated recipients and came up with the best reporter in each of the radio, television and print media.
She added: “NAN reporter won the apt 2017 print media ambassador in Kogi; on behalf of the Board of Trustees of DCI, this Certificate of Credence is presented to Stephen Adeleye in appreciation of being an apt media ambassador in Kogi”.
The executive director noted that the organisation was having about 200 indigent persons under its care, and therefore appealed to individuals, groups, organisations and governments to donate cash, food and other relief items to help alleviating the suffering of those vulnerable children.
The recipient, Adeleye, told journalists that he felt humbled about the award bestowed on him, saying it was a form of encouragement to continue to put in his best in giving the right and timely information to the general public.
“It is also an indication that whatever we do people are watching; so it is good to always stand for what is right no matter the situation.
“I give thanks to God who has made me to be alive and well, and the NGO for considering me to be a worthy recipient of the award; as I was shocked when I was informed of the award,” Adeleye said.
Other reporters such as: Solomon Ayedehin of NTA Lokoja, received the Television media ambassador, Okeme Yusuf of FRCN (Prime FM) for the Radio, while The Graphic Newspaper received the Newspaper media ambassador award.
