NAFDAC Destroys N25m Fake Products in Kogi

In its quest to stem the tide in trade of fake products in the society,National Food and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has destroyed counterfeit products worth over N25,000,000 in Kogi State.

The Acting Director General of the organisation, Mrs. Yetunde Oni disclosed this while speaking at destruction site of counterfeit products in Lokoja on Wednesday, saying that the agency was committed to get rid of the fake products out of the country’s markets.

The Acting Director General of the organisation who was represented by Director of Special Duties, Alhaji Abubakar Jimoh, stated that the periodic exercise further gave credence to the fact that NAFDAC is continuously waging war against persons or organisations involved in counterfeiting of regulated products, adding that the agency is also discharging its functions in tandem with its mandate.

She pointed out that counterfeiting is a phenomenal spectrum aim at eliminating human existence, saying that if not properly checked, it portends dangers in the Country.

“These products worth is over N15, 081217.00(fifteen million, eighty one thousand, two hundred and seventeen naira) only. We must stress that some of these products were voluntarily submitted to NAFDAC by various governmental and nongovernmental organisations whilst others were mopped up from market via enforcement activities and surveillance system of NAFDAC”, she said.

Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mr. Ali Bulus Mshelia hinted that NAFDAC will not relent in its efforts to enforce law of the land against any persons dealing in counterfeiting products in the State. He noted that the successes of the agency were not without challenges, saying that the agency has only one operational vehicle which is an impediment in its operation.

The State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Ayoade Folashade Arike assured NAFDAC of cooperation, stressing that the present administration is committed to providing quality health services to the people of the state.
