The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Kogi state chapter, has suspended it one week old strike action.
The state chapter of JUSUN had on July 5 directed its members to embark on an indefinite strike with effect from 6th July to press home demand for the implementation of N30,000 minimum wage for judiciary workers in Kogi state.
In a bulletin signed by the State Chairman, Emmanuel Waniko and Assistant Secretary, Sule Suberu, on Wednesday, JUSUN announced suspension of the strike action and called on members to resume in their respective offices on July 13.
According to the bulletin; “after series of meetings and deliberations, the memo sent to the Governor in respect of the minimum wage has been approved on the 7th July, 2023. The government has also commenced the process of paying the June differentials with immediate effect.
“It is on this note that the Union after meeting with Head of Courts, the delegates from Governor on the 11th July 2023 and our subsequent meeting on the 12th July 2023 has resolved to suspend the strike action.
“The union also wish to appreciate the Hon. Chief Judge and other Heads of Court for their efforts in ensuring the implementation.”

Reacting to the new development, a lawyer and activist, S.O. Akobe commended the Chief Judge and other stakeholders who listened to his call to end the strike within one week of its commencement.
The Lawyer stated, “I commend my Lord for his prompt action in mobilizing all the stakeholders for the purpose of ending the strike. It is hoped that the demands of JUSUN, Kogi State Chapter, will not be jettisoned after the suspension of the strike. I enjoin the Chief Judge and other stakeholders to enjoy that the welfare and wellbeing of Judicial officers and Staff are not compromised by any stretch of imagination. We will continue to stand firmly for the betterment of our Judiciary!”
