The wife of Kogi State governor, Hajia Rashida Bello, has expressed her determination to ensure that the Child Right Bill is passed in Kogi State.
Mrs Bello made the statement during the weekend at the Children’s Day Celebration which took place at the Confluence stadium, Lokoja.
She expressed concerns over the unpalatable experience victims of child labour go through.
“It is sad to note that family members, relatives, neighbours, house helps, abuse children in many ways. They are treated like outcasts or slaves in child labour, some treatment melted out to them in the name of discipline, out weights the wrong deeds.” she said.
Mrs Bello re-sffirmed that concerted effort will be made under the current administration in the state to ensure the Child Right Law is enacted.
She called on all stakeholders to respect the rights of children who are the leaders of tomorrow.
“We should all give them respect, special care and protection, she said.
Speaking to the children, she challenged them to be aware of their rights.
“Know that you have rights like rights to be looked after by parents, right to have healthy food, right to good education, right to be safe and secure, right to girl child education and if disabled, or sick , you have a right to special care”, she said.
She, however, urged children to always remember the norms, tradition and imbibe the value of discipline, sense of order, cleanness, beauty, above all innocence.
Mrs Bello describe the children’ s Day celebration as an opportunity to identify the challenges of children and resolve to roll out mechanisms towards ensuring a more secured society for them.
