MOTION CALLING ON THE STATE GOVERNMENT TO COMPLETE THE CONSTRUCTION OF DEKINA TOWNSHIP ROAD TO FORESTALL FURTHER LOSS OF LIVES AND PROPERTIES.
Dekina town is the headquarters of Dekina local government and it’s Township road is the only secured links that connect Bassa local government to other parts of the eastern senatorial district. Influence by its topography, the town suffers serious ecological challenges in the form of erosion menace and bad road network. These challenges hinder productive co-existence among residents of the community, in a bid to ameliorate the suffering of the people resulting from these problems, the immediate past government awarded the construction of Dekina Township road but eventually failed to treat it with the urgency it deserves.
Whereas, the contractor, ECC Engineering and Co, Ltd can no longer continue work due to non-release of fund, the company which has earlier carried out an excavation work on the road have suspended work, leaving the road at the mercy of golly erosions that took advantage of the situation. This condition has not only limited movement within the community but has made the road a death trap for residents and travelers who ply it.
Whereas, the road is presently ravaged by gully erosion and as a result continue to cause accidents leading to loss of lives and properties, especially for visitors who are ignorant of the terrain. It will be recalled that on 28th November 2016,a police van conveying officers of joint task force to Bassa local government to quell a reported communal crisis slipped off the bad road and many casualties recorded.
Whereas, inhabitants of the community and other users of this road are predominantly farmers and businessmen who need to access all the markets around them to earn their livings and contribute to the revenue generation of the state, I therefore consider it necessary that the state government do attends to the deplorable condition of the road to prevent further damages to lives and properties.
PRAYERS
The Rt Hon Speaker, distinguished colleagues, it is in view of this background that I called on this Honorable house to agree and resolve as follows :
1. That the house committee on works do carry out an on-the-spot assessment of the road with a view to ascertaining it’s condition and report back to the house accordingly.
2. That an appeal be made to the state governor to fund the project and ensure its completion to forestall further loss of lives and properties.
I so moved
Hon Moses Ododo Idoko
