Modern Day Governance is Challenging – Awoniyi

Meeting the challenge of dwindling financial resources, impoverished citizenry and an array of demands in modern day governance, has been described as the greatest challenge of governance in Nigeria.

Yomi Awoniyi, the Kogi State Deputy Governor made the remarks at the third session of the first synod with the theme “will you be made whole” at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Ikoyi, in Ijumu Local Government Area.

The Deputy Governor said the increasing challenge to govern amidst several competing demands in the country, calls for prayers for those in positions of authority.

Awoniyi noted that every leader be it political,administrative or in secular fields needs prayers and the succor to seek the face of God for his mercies.

Awoniyi called on the church not to forsake those in authorities but to always pray for them.

The Deputy Governor described Capt Idris Wada’s administration as one committed to uplifting the living standard of the people, urged the church to continuously pray for God’s guidance upon his life and his administration.

Awoniyi explained that every good leader who is in politics would only make the desired progress when he involves God and the people in decision making,commended the peaceful coexistence existing among adherents of various religions in the State.

The Deputy Governor called for support for the Wada administration assuring that the administration will certainly deliver on its mandate to the people.

In his charge at the occasion, Rev. E.F. Ikupolati, Bishop of the Diocese of Ijumu, said in the light of the economic and moral crisis in the world, the synod aims at making the church realize its spiritual purpose.

The Clergyman charged the church to meet the spiritual,social and psychological needs of the people for Christianity to have a meaning in nation building.
