The Egbura people of Mozum community in Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State have appealed to the federal and the state governments to intervene on alleged incessant brutal attacks and killings of their people by suspected militia from neighbouring Bassa-Komo communities.

President-General, Mozum Cultural Development Association, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, in a statement in Lokoja yesterday, alleged that Egbura communities in Bassa had continued to witness unprovoked attacks, killings and burning of houses despite the peace accord signed between the Aguma of Bassa-Komo and Ohiogba of Mozum in April 2018.

He lamented that many people from Biroko, Ahutara, Ozugbe and Ogbazanyi communities had been displaced from their homes following the attacks and that moves for such internally displaced persons to return to their abodes were being frustrated.

He urged all concerned authorities to direct the full and total implementation of the panel of inquiry reports on the communal crises in the area as well as direct the immediate and unconditional return of all displaced persons to their homes with full military backup.

He also called for full investigations and prosecution of all persons connected to the actions of some of the militias arrested recently over the crisis as well as ensure the disbandment of all militia camps and recovery of illegal arms in possession of such people.
