Melody for Kogites: A Poem by Abdullahi Suleiman Otiwe

267
Spread the love

Neglected stones of Kogi
Your weeping arrests me
The storm of your pains calls me
Your glory shall soon return

You governed in monarch years back
Your grassland drenched and burnt
From all the streams; your agonies flow
The boat of your progress sinks

Your educational system shall rise again
Tell your children my dreams;
Primary school do not come to Kogi to perish
They will never crawl in illiteracy

Be happy over your sorrows
Tell yourselves my dreams;
Local government workers shall smile
You will never live by half-salary

You ‘ve been half in love with your government
I can see what sorrow has made you
You shall return the visa of penury
You must dishonour the cheque of monarchy

Prepare your return to majestic height
The plane has arrived at Unity port
Drink no longer from pot of violence
Above all, make your interest governed.

Spread the love

    It is sad to see the only recognized state hotel in a moribund state like this . The fortune of the hotel started dwindling immediately former Governor Ibrahim terminated the management of the Hotel with Sheraton Group and handed it over to experienced Managers. Some of us then as members of staff of Sheraton Lagos that occupied strategic positions were highly disappointed at government decision.
    I was privileged to have the details of the performance of the hotel and all its challenges but could not help the situation because the opportunity was not there coupled with tribal sentiment in staff recruitment, uncontrolled administrative expenses with lack of viable marketing strategy for the business led to its demise.
    finally, we can still save the situation if there is political will to call on experts to design the public private partnership arrangement for potential investors to manage in order to retain our state of the art structure in our unique confluence state capital.
