The INEC collation centre at Mopa in Mopamuro local government area of Kogi State has come under attacks from thugs allegedly loyal to the Director General on Media and Publicity to Governor Yahaya Bello, Evangelist Kingsley Fanwo.
INEC officials and agents of parties involved in the ongoing recall process against Senator Dino Melaye fled into the bush as Fanwo led thugs to disrupt collation of Recall results at Mopa.
A source, who called Kogireports.com from his hiding, said INEC officials abandoned their materials and fled to Lokoja as over 1000 youths stormed the collation centre.
The source, at the time of call, was still trying to navigate his way back to the highway from the bush where he was hiding from the thugs. He claimed the thugs were armed.
The source revealed that other government officials came with Fanwo and the thugs. He alleged that that the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Bolanle Amupitan; Special Adviser to Gov. Bello on Youth and Sport, MD Eseyin and the Senior Special Assistant on Water Resources were part of the mob that stormed the collation centre.
Reports from an associate of the embattled Senator Melaye, Gbenga Olulade confirmed that thugs invaded the INEC office in Mopa.
“Mopa in chaos! Gunshots in INEC office Mopa as Honourable Oyebode Makinde, others storms there to prevent manipulations,” he said.
However, an eye witness, Adeola Oladele reported that an attempt to manipulate the results led to the reaction of the hoodlums who alleged that INEC officials were being compromised by a former Deputy Governor from the area.
