The death of Salamatu Aliu, a ward attendant in the post natal ward at the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja, Kogi State, on Tuesday has enraged her colleagues who accused medical doctors and nurses in the health facility of negligence.
The attendants staged a peaceful protest in the hospital upon hearing the news of Salamatu’s death.
It was gathered that late Salamatu was rushed to the hospital for medical attention on Sunday evening but was not attended to by doctors and nurses on duty due to a lack of electricity.
A source, who craved anonymity, told our reporter that the late Salamatu Aliu was later referred to Kogi State Specialist Hospital and died shortly after getting to the hospital.
“This negligence of doctors and nurses in the Accident and Emergency Ward here in Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja is unbecoming. This actually led to this peaceful protest to register our grievances with the hospital management, that we are not happy losing our own colleague. The management must do something to avert future occurrences. All lives matter and are equal. They should stop treating us unfairly,” the source stated.
The protesters were later pacified to go back to work as they were assured that the issue will be thoroughly investigated.
All attempts to speak with the hospital management proved abortive at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the legal adviser to the hospital, Enny O. Esq., said the matter just came to his attention and is being addressed to ascertain what actually transpired.
